Full details

Lake Garda southern area is a blessed little corner of the World, and we were lucky to be born around here. Not all that shines is gold, goes the saying, but whoever isn’t aware of how much beauty we have and how good lifestyle is possible here, needs for sure a good therapist.
Hundreds of thousands of tourists spend their holidays here, looking for the Italian atmospheres that this territory offers abundantly: sunny days, nature, good food, beach life, historical buildings and monuments, panoramas, a general sense of freedom, friendly people.
On top of that, and in a very short distance from each other, you can go one day in the Dolomites or to the top of Monte Baldo, the other day to Venice or Milan.
We didn’t mention WINE so far, because it needs a separate chapter on this story.
Lake Garda wines are named after the places where they were invented, so talking about Bardolino, Custoza and Lugana, means talking about territory and not bottles. This is what our tour is about.
Any time of the year that you will ride this tour, the atmosphere will be different.
In springtime, when the vineyards are green and the grapes are nothing more than a small sprout, the feeling you have pedaling along the fields is pure energy. The more you enter in the hot season, the more you will see people working in the vineyards, selecting the best grapes in order to harvest – between end august and September – only the most healthy fruits. In October, when the work has already ended in the open air and the whole process is ongoing in the wineries, it’s the smell that comes first: you won’t see grapes anymore, you only feel it’s all been processed and, for a hot season leaving, there’s a new vintage arriving.
Southern Lake Garda hills are the result of a morainic process, the ancient glacier melted exactly where there are now vineyards. Cycling this area is a rollercoaster into geological eras, we will see small ponds, where in the centuries a small medieval settlement became a castle, we will find herratic boulders as big as a car, dropped by some mountain and carried by the flowing of the ice from 150km far from here. We will arrive at the southern edge of the hills, and watch the Po plain, totally flat for 100km. In the clearest days we will see the Appennini on the other side of the plain. We will visit memorials of the Italian independence wars, fought in times when “wine tasting” and “dolce vita” were something that nobody ever had even the dream of.
There will be time for a look at the massive walls of Peschiera, which was originally built as a fortress protected by the waters of Lake Garda, and we won’t miss Borghetto, one of the most beautiful Italian hamlets with its mills on the river Mincio.
And to all of this, we will toast to life and happiness with a good glass of your favourite lake Garda wine!
