Full details
The name “Monte Baldo” is probably one of the most misused of Lake Garda. Most of the tourists think that the name is only related to the place where Malcesine cableway arrives, whereas, it’s the definition for the whole massif bordering the lake from Garda to Torbole.
There isn’t a “Monte Baldo peak” each single peak has its own name, for your information, Malcesine Cableway arrives at Tratto Spino.
Needless to say, when you ask to a guide or to a local resident to go to “Monte Baldo”, the number of correct answers is huge, as huge is the mountain, being around 50 by 15 kilometers in extension.
People from rovereto may suggest going to Brentonico or up to the Altissimo, whereas people from Garda may be more about the Prada or Novezza suggestions.
Sounds complicated, needs a map and a good knowledge, no?
There’s one easy thing about Monte Baldo: the west side has views toward the lake, and the higher you go, the better the views are.
On the other hand, from the east side lake views aren’t many, if not any.
Another easy thing, like if we were speaking about black or white, the western is favourably exposed to the mild effect of Lake Garda warm waters, so despite the altitude, most of the mountain doesn’t have a real “high mountain” vegetation, it’s more Mediterranean especially below 1000n.
The east is 100% Alpine.
The east has big forests, beeches and conifers.
The east has very little summer tourism
The east is WILD.
That’s why we love riding there. Because you can leave the beach early morning in flip flops, drive to 1000m altitude and ride the whole day from one hut to another, up and down remote valleys, maybe climbing to the same viewpoints that attract so many people but from the exact opposite way.
And from the wild side, you can see the actual majesty of the crests of Monte Baldo, all its peaks with those never heard names, Valdritta, Naole, Coal Santo, Sascaga, Telegrafo, Costabella…
From the wild side you can look at the river Adige valley and the Po plain down south, feeling like you are on the last mountain of the Alps before the southern hemisphere.
Did you realize we like this place? So, if you trust this feeling and you like mountainbiking trust also us and book this tour.
